Learn more about two Australian vegetable industry research programmes | 30 Nov
Monday 30 November 2026
3:30 PM
Bioeconomy Science Institute, 49 Cronin Rd, Pukekohe
Join NZVeg (with support from the Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) and The Horticentre Charitable Trust) for an opportunity to hear from Carl Larsen (pictured) of RM Consulting Group (RMCG), Australia, as he shares practical insights from two Australian vegetable industry research programmes.
Carl will introduce the Soil Wealth and Integrated Crop Protection (ICP) programme, which has worked alongside Australian vegetable growers for more than a decade to improve soil health, crop productivity and profitability. Through commercial demonstration farms, the programme has explored practical approaches to cover cropping, reduced tillage, soil biology, crop protection and more efficient use of inputs.
Carl will also discuss Australia's work addressing herbicide-resistant ryegrass in onion and carrot production, including the challenges growers are facing, emerging resistance trends and approaches to improving weed management across vegetable rotations.
Why attend?
With increasing pressure on production costs, soil health and the effectiveness of existing herbicides, these are challenges shared by vegetable growers on both sides of the Tasman. This session provides an opportunity to learn from Australian research and on-farm experience, explore practices that could work in New Zealand production systems and discuss how we can better protect the tools available to growers.
The session will be relevant to vegetable growers, agronomists, crop advisers and anyone interested in improving the long-term productivity and resilience of vegetable production.
